2. Look for an experienced company, and if possible, look for testimonials or contact people who have been on previous trips. They are the perfect people to answer any questions you may have.
3. Be prepared. It's not going to be all glitz and glamour, it will be hard at times, especially at first, but the friends you make will be for life and you won’t want to leave by the end.
4. Pick a program that's right for you. You can do anything from teaching children English to building schools, just do something you will find rewarding.
5. Are you passionate about a particular country? Find a program there! Volunteering abroad is the perfect opportunity to explore somewhere you've always wanted to go and you will almost certainly find people who will want to travel around the country more after the program ends.
Volunteering abroad will allow you to see a country from a very different perspective than you would being a tourist. You are essentially a part local community and what better way to absorb the culture of a place than by helping them at the same time?
